Message from the President: February - Be Communicative - BeSMPS

by Amy Matsumoto, SMPS Seattle President

February is one of my favorite months. Not only is it my birthday month, but it also marks the end of the holiday season. (Come on, I know some of you are thankful you survived the holidays!) How can you not like a month that starts out with a groundhog named Punxsutawney Phil predicting an early spring or six more weeks of winter? February is the rogue month, not only is it harder to spell, but it throws in an extra day every four years. February is when New Year's resolutions start to fade and you let yourself eat that piece of cake, or, if you listen to Oprah, rationalize bread back into you lief. February is when all the good new episodes of TV shows come back on the air.

Turns out, February is also the Be Communicative month for BeSMPS! Don't you all love our "Be" theme this year? Be Communicative, how can we do that? Are you aware of SMPS Seattle's Roundtables? Membership surveys reveal that our member-only roundtables are one of the biggest benefits to an SMPS membership. Roundtables are groups of eight to 12 led by a facilitator that meet monthly to discuss topics of their choice. How fabulous is that? Be Communicative, join a roundtable for mentoring, networking, education, and even to discuss how-to's or marketing challenges you may be currently experiencing. It's a perfect place to bounce ides off of your peers. For more information on SMPS Seattle Roundtables, please contact our Roundtable Chair, Sandy Chapin.

Looking for another opportunity to Be Communicative? Attend our February 23rd Educational Breakfast in Bellevue: Strategic Account Management. You'll be able to network with peers and learn how being communicative or building relationships can result in winning more work.

Hava a fabulous February!

Oh! Don't forget to start scouting those college basketball teams in order to prepare your brackets for our March Madness, Hoops and Hops networking event at the Hard Rock Cafe on March 15th from 4:30 to 6:30 pm. Stay tuned for more information, and I hope to see you there!
