InDesign on Demand: A Tabloid in a Letter World
by Katherine Robinette, CPSM, Go! Strategies, LLC
One great feature of InDesign since CS5 is the ability to add a tabloid (or other custom size) page to an existing document. Gone are the days of having a separate document/file for the landscape, tabloid schedule. Now you can integrate it into your existing proposal document, and know that the page will never be forgotten in production.
Here's how to make it happen.
Go to the Pages panel and select one of your Master Pages just so it is highlighted.

Right-click anywhere in the panel and select "New Master..." from the dialog box that pops up.

In the next dialog box, select the page size and orientation you want. You can even create a custom paper size here, if you want (like a tri-fold brochure size, but that's another story...).

Here, I've selected Tabloid and Landscape.
Hit "ok" and voila! You're new Master Pages are available for you to tailor and adapt to your proposal needs. In this version, I left "facing pages" on, but it works the same way if you turn that feature off.

You can apply the new Master Page style to an existing page or any new pages by simply grabbing it with your cursor and pulling over over the page icon.

Next month - some auto-numbering tips to make your one 11x17 page count as two (as required by the RFP).
