Don your hard hats and safety vests and join us for a tour of what is certain to be a landmark building in the heart of Seattle! The Northlake Commons, which is now under construction, is Seattle's first mass-timber Life sciences facility, and a contemporary nod to the legacy of the original Dunn Family timber business, which has operated since 1931 on this street in the Wallingford area on the north end of Lake Union.

This ground-breaking three- and four-story, 196,000 SF structure is made up of two mass timber structures that rise above a concrete
podium/plaza level and divided into a mix of tech office and life science space. The interior and external environment embraces a human connection to nature and emulate the biophilic design idea of being in a forest. Outdoor space becomes a prominent element that includes spacious private decks and expansive plazas, which connect directly to the Burke Gilman Trail.

Project representatives will lead the tour, providing an insightful and unique opportunity to discover the design, usability, and efficacy of the structure and the surrounding area. Purpose-built for the human experience, the integration of architecture and site features containing office space, shopping, eateries, and abundant landscaping, including a sunken rain garden - has been dubbed "quintessentially Northwest”.

Learning Objectives and Benefits of Attending:

  • Learn about the materials used in the design of the building.
  • Learn why the architects of this commercial development aspired to create a post-pandemic workplace.
  • Learn how green stormwater infrastructure will be incorporated to clean runoff from the lower Wallingford neighborhood.
  • Discover how health and wellness have played a major role in the overall design aesthetic.
  • Experience the interior and exterior connections to nature.
  • Learn how sustainability features will contribute to the efficiency of the building. As the first mass timber commercial building of its size in Seattle - this LEED Gold project offers a lower-carbon alternative to exclusively concrete and steel construction.
  • Learn about how the unique partnership between the project team and the Seattle Parks Department allowed the team to go beyond the boundaries of the site to simultaneously give back to the community and enhance the project’s overall impact.

After the project tour, please join us for happy hour at Saint Bread. A drink ticket and light appetizers will be provided.
